Ashley National ForestThe Ashley National Forest is mostly in Utah, but its most spectacular feature, the Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area, overlaps into southwestern Wyoming. This reservoir is famous for its blue ribbon fishing and record trout. This is also a popular area for a variety of watersports, from swimming to waterskiing. The sites around Flaming Gorge Reservoir that are in Wyoming are Buckboard Crossing Campground, Firehole Campground, Marsh Creek Campground and Squaw Hollow Campground. Black Hills National Forest The westernmost portion of the Black Hills National Forest crosses the South Dakota state line. The dramatic rise of the mountains from the high plains of eastern Wyoming, the thickly timbered slopes, and the prolific wildlife makes it easy to understand why the Sioux fought so hard to keep these beautiful lands. There are four Forest Service campgrounds in the Wyoming area of the Black Hills: Bearlodge Campground, Cook Lake Recreation Area, Reuter Campground, and Sundance Campground. Targhee National Forest The Targhee National Forest is largely in Idaho, but a section of it encompasses the western slope of the Teton Range. The Jedediah Smith and Winegar Hole wilderness areas provide the same pristine beauty as the park side of the Tetons, but without the teeming crowds. This is densely populated bear country, so be sure to use the food safes and game poles provided. Sites in the Targhee in Wyoming include Cave Falls Campground, Coal Creek Campground, East Table Creek Campground, Reunion Flat Campground, Teton Canyon Campground, and Trail Creek Campground. Wasatch-Cache National Forest Although the Wasatch-Cache National Forest is primarily in Utah, a section of the Evanston and Mountain View Ranger Districts overlap into Wyoming. South of Mountain View, within the forest visitors find a scenic backway, a winter sports area, and a large reservoir featuring a campground and historic cabin. From Evanston, WY-150 turns into a scenic byway at the forest boundary, which climbs to tranquil and lovely Mirror Lake, near the High Uintas Wilderness. The two developed sites in the Wasatch-Cache are Meeks Cabin Reservoir and Deadhorse.
