Description: Outside of Yosemite National Park along the Merced River is the Merced River Recreation Area. Activities on the river include Class III-V rafting, gold panning, wildlife watching and fishing. There are three BLM campgrounds, with a total of 31 sites, along the Merced. Railroad Flat, Willow Placer and McCabe Flat all contain a combination of walk-in and RV campsites.
Location: From Mariposa, go 15 miles north on CA 140 to the Briceburg Visitor Center, then cross the river and go west. The campgrounds are between 2.5- 5 miles west of the VC, across the river, on the old Yosemite railroad grade.
