Description: The camping area within the 3,500 acre long term visitor area is dotted with mesquite trees, creosote bushes, and palo verde, a desert landscape which contrasts delightfully with the cool waters of the lake. The visitor area is geographically situated to provide wonderful scenic vistas of the surrounding Colorado River basin. Visitors enjoy a spectrum of water-related recreation, from fishing and swimming to boating and windsurfing. Additional facilities include an area for performances and dances, and ramadas for shady picnics.
Location: Exit I-8 and follow AZ 24 north about 22 miles to the turnoff on Senator Wash Road. Turn onto Senator Wash Road and follow it about 2 miles to the South Mesa area where there is a visitor contact station. The long term visitor area is on the California side of the Colorado River.

Notes: required for camping in the area between 9/15 - 4/15. The permits cost $100 for the whole season, and short term permits are $20/week, up to four weeks. During the off season, if you wish to brave the heat, camping is restricted to a 14 day stay. There are supplemental rules which are used to help manage the campgrounds and are published each season in brochure format. Managed in partnership with the Bureau of Reclamation.
