Description: At the southern end of the Cascade Range, Lassen Peak is an active volcano, erupting most recently in 1914-1915. The volcano is currently dormant, although a variety of hot springs and fumaroles on the mountain's flanks attest to the seething interior. The diverse habitat of the park supports a wide range of plant and animal life. Hiking and camping in the summer, skiing and snowshoeing in the winter. Permits required for backcountry travel Sections of two emigrant trails are visible.
Location: Fifty miles east of Red Bluff on CA 36, and 50 miles east of Redding on CA 44.
