Description: 4120-foot elevation. 58 campsites in the conifer forest around on Phillips Lake include 12 tent-only sites. Phillips Lake is popular for fishing, motor boating, waterskiing, and canoeing. Day use picnic areas, fishing areas, and boat ramps are scattered along the north shore, including a nature trail and picnic area on the Powder River, downstream from the lake. A hiking trail circles Phillips Lake. Evidence of the gold rush is still visible to the west of the campground, where mine tailings are piled up around the massive Sumpter Valley Dredge, which sifted $4.5 million in gold out of the Powder River gravel. Also visible are the tracks of the historic Sumpter Railroad.
