Description: The Imnaha River starts at 8,000 feet in the Wallowa Mountains sacred to the Nez Perce, and descends, following a fault line, to 950 feet at the Snake River. Some of the 77 miles of river passes through private land, and is not open to public access, but the majority is on public land, bordering or crossing the Hells Canyon National Recreation Area, the Eagle Cap Wilderness, and the Hells Canyon Scenic Byway. The surrounding river valley has retained its rustic, agricultural culture, which evolved in the century since Europeans settled in the area.

Recreational activities include hunting, fishing, horseback riding, hiking, snowmobiling, skiing, and camping. Wildlife common along the Imnaha includes bighorn sheep, mule deer, elk, and black bear. A variety of plant species and diverse ecosystems can also be found, including ecosystems representative of all the biological zones in western Oregon. Hiking near the mouth on the Nee-Me-Poo National Historic Trail.

Location: The main stem from the confluence of the North and South Forks of the Imnaha River to its mouth and South Fork from its headwaters to the confluence with the main stem. The Imnaha River Road/ Forest Road 727 parallels the river most of the way.
