Description: Pinon-juniper shaded lake shore location on Quemado Lake and great facilities make for wonderful camping, fishing, wildlife viewing and hiking. There are 22 family campsites and 2 group campsites at an elevation of 7820'.
Nearby to Gila Wilderness—the nation’s first wilderness area--for great backpacking, hiking, hunting for trophy elk and mule deer, bear, cougar, or fishing for native Gila trout, rainbow trout and German brown trout in the Gila River, San Francisco River and Mimbres River. Nearby attractions include the former mining town and ghost town of Mogollon, and the famous Catwalk near Glenwood. Lots of New Mexico history: from Apache Indian warriors like Geronimo and Victorio to Aldo Leopold who was a forest ranger on the Gila National Forest.
