Description: Located at 9400 ft in the heart of the majestic Valle Vidal Unit, this 35 site campground is popular with hunters, anglers and wildlife-watchers. Elk and deer hunting opportunities abound. Trout fishing in nearby Shuree Ponds and the Comanche Creek as well as the close-by Rio Pueblo which also offers wheel chair access. The Agua Piedra trail #19A can be traveled on by (foot, horse, mountain bike & motorcycle)and is 6.1 miles. The campground is composed of two sections near the Rio Pueblo. One section, at entrance to campground, is a short loop with sites that can accommodate small groups. The other section contains two loops, one which accommodate tents or RVs(combined) and the other is for tents only. Shade is provided by spruce, fir and a few aspen. The sound of the river can be heard throughout the campground.

Location: 30 miles southwest of Costilla via NM 196 and FRs 1950 & 1910 From Costilla on State Highway 522, travel east on State Highway 196 past Amalia to the intersection of Forest Service Road 1950. Travel on 1950 (a gravel road) east to the Unit boundary. Follow Forest Service Road 1950 to the junction with Forest Service Road 1900. Turn right, you will cross Costilla Creek. Continue on Forest Service Road 1950, 10 miles to the junction with Forest Road 1910. Climb 1 mile up the hill to Cimmarron Campground.   Latitude: 36.769475   Longitude: -105.2050026
