Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument, New Mexico
View Vicinity Map    Recommended Maps & Books    Share With a Friend
Description: New Mexico`s newest National Monument, Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks was designated on January 17, 2001. From the parking area, the 2 mile National recreation trail winds between the eroded, cone-shaped tents of volcanic tuff and up a wash below a high promontory. In the wash`s sandy bottom, youngsters with sharp eyes spot tiny pieces of black obsidian, or volcanic glass. If you take the hike up to the top, commanding views of the Rio Grande valley and the Jemez, Sandia and Sangre de Cristo Mountains reward your efforts.
