Description: The Jedediah Smith Wilderness includes 116,535 acres on the "other" side of the Tetons. Although this area does not see the same high traffic as the national park lands on the east face, there has been enough overuse that major attractions like Alaska Basin, Moose Lake, Spearhead Peak, Camp Lake, and Hidden Lake, are all closed to stock grazing, campfires, and camping with stock. This is one of the best wildflower viewing areas in the greater Yellowstone area, since every species native to the ecosystem is represented here. The wilderness is home to bears, elk, mule and white tail deer, raptors, and many small birds and mammals. The streams offer habitat for a variety of trout.

Location: The Jedediah Smith Wilderness lies on the western slopes of the Teton Mountain Range. Access is from a number of campgrounds within the Teton Basin.
