Notes: Nearby interpretive signing
describes area recreation opportunities, local history, and the historic Sunbeam
Dam. Constructed in 1904 to furnish power to the Sunbeam Mine, the dam
was later destroyed allowing salmon to once again return to spawning
grounds upstream. Ten miles from Sunbeam is the Custer Museum, located in
Custer`s old schoolhouse, contains collections and preservations of the early
days of mining. Take the self-guided tour through the remains of this once
thriving community and get a unique glimpse of turn-of-the-century gold
mining.
