Description: 128,421 acres. Elevations range from 8000-14,000 feet. With its rugged and magnificent terrain of glacially-carved canyons, mountains, and meadows, and well-maintained trail system, the Hoover sees heavy visitation, especially in the popular 20 Lakes Basin area. Excelsior Mountain is the highest point, at 12,446 feet. Visitors can expect to see black bears, rainbow, brook and golden trout, and losts of harsh, varied weather. Those packing into the wilderness with livestock should plan on packing their own feed. This area is grazed by sheep and cattle. Use proper food storage techniques here, to avoid attracting bears or other wildlife.
Location: Trailheads located on Virginia Creek, Green Creek, Robinson Creek, Buckeye Creek, and the Little Walker River.
