Lees Ferry, Arizona
View Vicinity Map    Recommended Maps & Books    Share With a Friend
Description: As one of the few natural corridors between Utah and Arizona, Lees Ferry became an important crossing as Mormon settlers traveled south on homesteading missions. Many of the historical buildings standing in this area were constructed during this era of the late 1800`s, as the Lee`s ranch, Lonely Dell, became a hub of communications and industry, with a post office and a trading post (originally a fort constructed to shield homesteaders from Navajo predations). Today, Lees Ferry is a recreation destination as well, where rafters can put in to float down the Colorado, and hikers emerge from the Paria Canyon Wilderness. There are three hikes of varying difficulty in the area; please consult the brochure available in the ranger station.

Location: Located 15.3 miles downriver from Glen Canyon Dam. From Page, drive 23 miles south on Hwy. 89 to Bitter Springs. Then turn north on Hwy. 89A and drive 14 miles to Navajo Bridge. The Lees Ferry junction is west of the bridge, on the right.
