Parker Dam Recreation Area, Arizona

Description: BLM posted Fire Restrictions for this area May 14th. Campfires and charcoal grills are permitted in developed recreation sites or improved sites where agency-built fire rings or grills are provided. NOTE: Fire restrictions also apply to undeveloped agency lands outside of this site.

The Parker Strip Area is a long stretch of land surrounding Lake Havasu, formed on the Colorado River by the Parker Dam. For the visitor with only a few hours to spare, there is a backcountry byway which follows the shoreline for eleven miles, lined with scenic pullouts that describe how the river has been a "Thread of Life" for the inhabitants of the surrounding desert. Campgrounds line the shore, including two public campgrounds-- Empire Landing and Crossroads-- with a total of 90 campsites for RVs and tents, each of which has a 14 day stay limit. These feature a dump station, swimming beaches, showers, and restrooms. There are also several privately run resorts: Sunshine, River Lodge, Big Bend, Echo Lodge, Windmill, Rio del Colorado, Desert Riviera, Black Meadow Landing, Emerald Cove and River Land. These offer full-service facilities, from electric hookup for RVs to laundry and stores, and also offer long-term RV spaces. The day use areas contain picnic areas and boat ramps, as well as fishing piers and scenic views. Finally, there are two unrestricted OHV playgrounds, which feature a loading ramp and restrooms.
