Recreation in the area covers a wide range of interests: you can opt for the whole spectrum of water sports on nearby Canyon Ferry Lake, and hundreds of miles of hiking trails in the surrounding Big Belt Mountains or in the Missouri River Valley. Watch for wildlife, or explore the forest roads.

The cabin was probably built on a mining claim in the 1930`s, and was donated to the Forest Service in 1988. The cabin is equipped with a wood heating stove, a wood cooking stove, propane lantern, propane cooking stove, table, chairs, two double sleeping bunks, a double bed, mattresses, axe, shovel, bucket, cooking, eating and cleaning gear. Bring your own water, food, bedding, and propane canisters. Hiking, wildlife viewing, hunting in season, mountain biking, and OHV ridings are nearby activities. Canyon Ferry Lake is 5 miles away for fishing and boating.

Location: From Helena, go about 17 miles on Canyon Ferry Road over the dam, bearing left at the junction onto Forest Road 425, Magpie Gulch Road. Go 3.9 miles, turn north onto Bar Gulch Road, and go approximately 1/4 mile to the cabin which will be the first cabin to your left.
