Description: 15 sites on the West Fork of the Bitterroot River. Near historical town of Alta, the first Ranger Station in the country. Hughes Creek was the site of early-day placer gold mining. The nearby Alta Pine Trail is wheelchair-accessible. Today, you can explore the area on a number of back roads, but be extremely cautious around old mines.

Location: From Darby, go 5 miles south on US 93, then 30 miles southwest on Forest Road 473.
