Description: 53 mile one way trip. This route was established by the Southern Nez Perce, as a trail used to travel from the Camas Prairie in Idaho to the Bitterroot Valley in Montana. Sites along the way include the town of Clearwater (6.6 miles from Harpster, the starting point, and the cemetery at Newsome (30.4 miles in). A map is available from the forest service, which highlights the points of interest. Elk City is a full-service community with hotels, restaurants, and gas stations.
