Description: This is one of the oldest designated byways in the country, and since 1926, travelers have been enjoying the cool heights and exquisite alpine terrain of the Snowy Range. From Libby Flats Overlook, you can see the mountains in Colorado, and from the rest of the drive, you can enjoy Medicine Bow Peak, at 12,013 feet. At the west end of the byway, at Ryan Park Campground, you can experience the darker side of the history here with a self-guided tour of the site of a WWII prisonor of war camp.
Campgrounds abound along this route. A number of lakes and creeks can be fished with great success, and trails lead up to Medicine Bow Peak and to more mountain lakes. Winter sports include snowmobiling and cross-country skiing on groomed trails, and downhill skiing at the Snowy Range Ski Area.
Location: WY-130 through the Medicine Bow National Forest west of Laramie. One way trip is 29 miles and takes 45 minutes.
