Description: 20 campsites at 10,400ft elevation in Upper and Lower Lagunitas areas are adjacent to breath-taking Cruces Basin Wilderness. Hiking and horse riding on trails in the wilderness. Scenic driving in the area. Hunting in season. The Cruces Basin Wilderness is 19,000 acres of majestic landscape in northern New Mexico ranging from 10,900 feet along the Brazos Ridge, to 8,500 feet near the Los Pinos River. While there are no designated trails in the Cruces Wilderness, hiking can be easy over these upland grasslands, or difficult in forest snags. Cross-country skiing is very popular here. There are many opportunities to see and hunt wildlife such as elk, mule deer, black bear, bobcats, mountain lions, coyotes and turkey. Streams for fishing support populations of Brook, Rainbow, and Brown Trout.
